U.S. News & World Report Ranks Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital's Rheumatology Department as One of Nation's Top Hospitals

Schenectady, NY - For the second consecutive year, US News & World Report has placed Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital on its "top 50 hospitals" for 2001 in rheumatology. This year, Sunnyview moved to a ranking of 36, along with such notable health care giants as the Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins Hospital, and Massachusetts General Hospital.
Rheumatology is the sector of medicine devoted to treating inflammatory diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus, as well as degenerative joint diseases, fibromyalgia, and many other disabling conditions.

"Last year we were honored to be included by this prestigious, independent magazine," says Robert J. Bylancik, Sunnyview's president and chief executive officer. "This designation reaffirms Sunnyview as not only a local leader and innovator in the treatment of rheumatic diseases, but also as being on the national forefront of caring for people with disabling conditions."
John Assini, MD, chairs Sunnyview's Department of Rheumatology. Sunnyview's distinguished rheumatologists include James Strosberg, MD, Martin Farber, MD, and Donald Wexler, MD.
"The US News & World Report list of best hospitals in the nation demonstrates that residents of the Capital Region have access to outstanding rheumatology services right here in Schenectady," Bylancik adds. "We are proud of this accomplishment and humbled by it simultaneously. This distinction indeed brings honor to Schenectady and our area."
Sunnyview joins two New York City hospitals (The Hospital for Special Surgery and the Hospital for Joint Diseases-Orthopedic Institute) and St. Luke's Hospital in Newburgh as the only New York-based facilities honored by US News & World Report in rheumatology.

Founded in 1928, Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital serves people of all ages in a variety of in- and outpatient programs that include rehabilitation for a wide variety of traumatic injuries. These include brain and spinal cord problems, cardiac rehabilitation, arthritis, amputee programs, vascular disease, speech, hearing and language disorders, pulmonary/breathing programs, neuropsychology services, and post-stroke therapy. Sunnyview offers a full range of state-of-the-art physical and occupational therapy for both in- and outpatients, as well as a Wellness Center that is available to the community via a membership system. Sunnyview also offers therapy services through several nursing homes and one hospital within a 75-mile radius of Schenectady. In July 2000 and July 2001, U.S. News & World Report named Sunnyview as one of the top hospitals in the nation for rheumatology
