One of Sunnyview's unique approaches to helping stroke patients and their family members is through the hospital's Post-Stroke Groups. Organized by Sunnyview's Department of Recreational Therapy, these group sessions combine social events with therapeutic activities, offering post-stroke patients and their family members the opportunity to interact with other people who have experienced medical and social problems following a stroke.

Sunnyview's post-stroke groups engage patients and family members in many recreational events, such as bowling, fishing, playing games, and going on outings in the culture-rich Capital Region. Additionally, the recreation therapists design activities

that may enhance a stroke patient's memory, such as playing numerical and word games, reading, singing Karaoke, doing adaptive arts and crafts, gardening, and participating in other hospital events.

Post-stroke patients are also encouraged to enroll in the Studio Arts Project. No experience in the arts is necessary. Call 518-386-3520 for more information.
