Richard Callner Videos.

Recently, in an review written for Metroland (Albany, New York), David Brickman called Richard Callner the unofficial painter laureate of the Capital Region. Those who have had the good fortune to know Richard and his work would, without hesitation, agree with Brickman’s statement. Richard, since arriving in Albany to start the M.F. A. program at the University at Albany in 1975, has been the quintessential artist/educator of the area. Diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease more than 25 years ago, he remains undaunted in his unique pursuit to understand color, visual order and imagery. Working as often as possible, at age 78, Richard’s art continues to impress, influence, and deliver.

These clips were taken from a video interview with Callner on May 3, 2005. The original video was produced by Cathy Frank and Ed Atkeson of the Firlefanz Gallery (Albany, NY), and filmed by Nicole Peyrafitte. Tim Cahill, artist and art writer for the Christian Science Monitor sat with Richard in his studio, surrounded by recent paintings, and had the following conversation:
